Long Rifles and Handguns

Firearms are extremely sensitive items and must be handled with the highest level of security at all times.

Basic Guidelines and Responsibilities:

Compliance with the law is your responsibility. Local and state laws vary regarding the possession of firearms. For safety, refrain from carrying firearms on your person unless authorized by local laws and regulations. When carrying a weapon, ensure compliance with the laws of all states or countries through which you intend to travel.

  • You must remove all ammunition from the firearm.
  • Firearms cannot be transported inside a gun safe.

Within the Continental United States:

Firearms can be included with your household goods shipment. When shipping firearms within the Continental United States, you must comply with local and/or state laws as well as Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) regulations.

Ammunition of any kind cannot be included in your household goods shipment.

Before the Move

  • Advise your Budd counselor if you have any firearms to ship with your household goods.
  • Provide the make, model, and serial number for each firearm to be shipped to the Budd counselor.
  • Keep the gun registration document with you and do not include it in your household goods shipment. Take it personally to the destination.

Appliances and Electronics

Ensure all appliances and electronics are properly prepared for transport according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

Winter Weather Conditions

Winter Weather Conditions – Appliances that contain fluids (water, oil) or heating elements should be allowed to return to room temperature (60 degrees) before they are used. This would include washers, dryers, waterbeds, ice-makers, grandfather clocks, water softeners and computer/electronic equipment.

Front Loading Washers

Front loading washers need special preparation for transport. A technician will need to come to your home to stabilize the drum of the washer. Your washer came with a stabilization kit. If you still have the kit – please let us know. Otherwise, the service tech will provide one. Consumer complaints indicate that front loading washers cannot be completely purged of water and have been known to have mold, mildew and odor problems.

Budd Van Lines cannot be liable for any mold, mildew, or odor that develops in the unit during transit or storage in transit and/or permanent storage.

Please refer to your machine’s manufacturer for specific transport and cleaning instructions.

Refrigerator/Freezer

  • Empty all food items, clean and dry thoroughly
  • Please see manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning tips.
  • Unplug and leave doors open for 24 hours prior to loading.
  • Remove glass shelves in order for the driver to pack.

Budd Van Lines cannot take responsibility for mold or mildew inside appliances

Electronics

  • Disconnect all wires and mark them accordingly.
  • If available, provide the original packing containers to the driver.
  • Remove all CD’s, tapes, and diskettes from CD players, tape decks, VCR’s, DVD players and computer drives. All ink cartridges from printers.
  • Plasma TV’s require special handling. Please make your coordinator aware if you have one

Other Important Items

Ensure antiques are professionally appraised before transport, make arrangements for pets to be safely contained during the move, and take necessary precautions for delicate items.

Antiques/High Value Items

If you happen to have high value items and artwork, we recommend a professional appraisal be performed before the items are moved. High value items are defined as anything with a value in excess of $100.00 per pound, per item. High value items must be inventoried separately from the rest of your shipment. Please speak to your Coordinator to have a form sent to you.

Dried/Silk Flower Arrangements & Crafts

Dried and silk flower arrangements and certain craft projects do not hold up well during a move because of their fragility. We will move such items, but no matter the amount of care taken in packing these items, pieces may be damaged, Budd Van Lines cannot take responsibility for damage to these pieces.

Press Board Furniture

Press Board furniture is not designed to be moved, disassembled, or reassembled safely. We recommend you either not move this furniture, or personally dismantle and reassemble the piece. Budd Van Lines cannot take responsibility for damage to these pieces.

Pets

If possible, place a pet in a neighbor’s home during the move. The doors to your home will be open often during the move process, and it’s easy for a pet to slip out unnoticed. If the neighbor’s house is not an option, please contain your pet in a confined area such as a bedroom or bathroom.
