If you found yourself anywhere in Central New Jersey this morning you may have been treated to the spectacle that is The Police Unity Tour, a 300-mile bike ride from New Jersey to Washington DC with a final destination set for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

The Police Unity Tour was founded in 1997 with the objective of bringing public awareness and donations for Police Officers who died in the line of duty and their families. In that inaugural year there was 18 cyclists, this year over one thousand cyclists participated, and Budd Van Lines was proud to support them in this important endeavor.

At our very own Somerset warehouse, over 60 police motorcycles were delivered and stored as well as over 100 bicycles. Becoming a main staging area, as well as a launching point for the Southern Californian chapter (number 7) that provides an escort for the cyclists on their 300-mile journey with their impressive BMW motorcycles.

Budd Van Lines also provides a tractor trailer for participants to load their bike cases, luggage, and other essential goods that are delivered to the weary riders before they head home.

The tour travels through New Jersey, Wilmington, DE, Annapolis, MD and ultimately to Washington DC.

On the evening of May 13, a candlelight vigil is held at the National Mall where survivors are escorted by members of the tour.

“It’s a sight to behold, all these dedicated officers riding as one for a good cause, and we at Budd Van Lines are proud to play a part for this important event,” stated Brian Huff, Sr. Director of Driver Services.

To date, this event has raised over 30 million dollars for the fallen and their loved ones, as well as the museum.
